“The Little Wolf Who Swam Out To Sea”
(“Вовченятко, яке запливло далеко в море”)
АБАБАГАЛАМАГА, Kyiv, 2002
This book was very important for my career. I started working on it while I still was a final-year student at the academy. I must admit that thanks to "The Little Wolf", I learned a lot. I approached the task with passion and enthusiasm—firstly because it was my first project for a major publisher, and secondly because I wanted to pour as much of myself as possible into the illustrations. As a child, I loved pictures with countless small details to explore endlessly, which inspired the richness of creatures and props in the underwater world.
The work on the illustrations took three years—the format was large, and the compositions were complex. The illustrations were created using watercolor on paper.
The book was originally published in Ukrainian and later translated into Russian, English, Czech and Lithuanian. In 2002, it won the award for the best children's book in the Ukrainian national annual competition "Book of the Year”.
